One Strike Eviction Policy: Does it help or does it hurt?

Grassroots Leadership Network of Marin works to lift up community voices, like yours, about important issues happening right here in our County. That’s why we listen when you come to us with issues or concerns. Recently, we’ve been hearing from concerned community members about the enforcement of the Marin Housing Authority’s newly updated One Strike Eviction Policy.

Under this policy:
  • An entire family or household living in Public Housing can be evicted if a single member or guest of the household is suspected or accused of engaging in illegal activity.

  • If evicted, many of these families, who are already living in poverty, may not be able to afford to live elsewhere and could be forced to live on the streets.

  • Many other public service providers in the County including food banks, shelters, and more could also be negatively impacted. Many of which already don’t have enough resources to provide for all those who need them.

  • The Housing Authority does not need any proof of arrest or conviction to subject a family to eviction.
